Vår etthundrade volontär! / The one hundredth Volunteer!
Det hela började året 2007 men det var inte förens 2010 som Globala Kronoberg kom till världen. Med uppgiften att vara en organisation som samordnade volontärerna i Kronobergs län vilket den har gjort fram tills nu, med kommunerna Växjö, Alvesta, Älmhult och Ljungby.
Och om du inte gissade det när du läste titeln så välkomnade vi nyligen våran hundrade volontär men vi har också skickat iväg 59 ungdomar från Sverige till resten av Europa genom EVS. Vi ser på EVS som en fantastisk möjlighet för samhället överlag. Det är något som ger en ökad självkänsla och kompetens till deltagarna vilket i sin tur leder till en högre grad av socio politiskt engagemang från Europas ungdomar, konsekvensen av det är ett förbättrat samhälle.
EVS gjorde det möjligt för Globala Kronoberg att bli en internationell mötesplats som knyter ihop Sverige med Europa och resten av världen, ett ställe där människor kan träffas fritt, arbeta tillsammans och utbyta ideér med varandra.
Majoriteten av volontärerna som vi har välkomnat har kommit från Frankrike, Spanien, Tyskland och Ungern. Organisationerna som de volontärarbetade hos var främst hos SIP (Funkibator och Projektor) och Globala Kronoberg, ungefär hälften volonterade vid dem organisationerna. Runt en fjärdedel av dem var hos Palladium, Grimslövs Högskola, Alvesta konsthall, Alvesta kommun. Resten av volontärerna var hos Atrium, Fenix fritidsgård, 11-gården, Practical team, Macken, Café Tufvan, Växjö Ridklubb och nykterhetsrörelsens scoutförbund.
Om ni frågade en av våra volontärer vad de fick ut av sitt volontärarbete skulle ni nog få ett svar som liknar det här:
“Idag ser jag på mig själv på ett helt annat sätt och med ett nytt perspektiv. Jag känner att EVS hjälpte mig väldigt mycket med att hitta nya möjligheter och utmaningar.”

Men också att det hjälpte dem att bestämma vad dem vill göra med sitt liv i framtiden, att det gav dem nya intressen och kompetenser som kommer att hjälpa dem med att hitta ett jobb. Dem har också blivit mer sällskapliga av sig och mer oberoende. Men den viktigaste lärdomen de får med sig är en förbättrad kommunikationsförmåga och en större förståelse för andra människors livsstilar och sätt att tänka på.

The first seed was sown in 2007 but it didn’t sprout until 2010, when Globala Kronoberg was cultivated into existence. Its purpose was to be an organization which coordinated the volunteers in the county which it has done up until now with the municipalities Växjö, Alvesta, Älmhult and Ljungby.
And if the title didn’t give it away, we recently welcomed our one hundredth volunteer we also sent 59 Swedish youths on their merry way out into Europe through EVS. Our view of EVS is that it’s a fantastic opportunity for the whole of society. It’s something that increases the self-confidence and competences of the participants which in turn leads to a higher level of sociopolitical engagement of Europe’s youths; consequently this contributes to a better and improved society.
EVS made it possible to turn Globala Kronoberg into an international meeting place which connects Sweden with Europe and the rest of the world; a place where people can freely meet, work and exchange ideas with others.
Most of the volunteers we acted as host for were from France, Spain, Germany and Hungary. The organizations they volunteered at were mostly SIP, Globala Kronoberg, Funkibator and Projektor around half of the volunteers volunteered at these four organizations. A fourth volunteered at Palladium, Grimslövshögskola and Alvesta exhibition hall and Alvesta municipality. The rest volunteered at Atrium, Fenix youth recreation center, 11-gården, Macken, Café Tufvan, Växjö Ridklubb and Nykterhetsrörelsens Scoutförbund.
If you asked one of our volunteers what they got out of their volunteer work, the answer you’d receive would most likely be something along these lines:
“Today I view myself in a completely new way and with a new perspective. I feel that EVS has helped me immensely with finding new possibilities and challenges.”

That it helped them decide what they want to do with their life in the future, that it gave them new interests and competences that’ll help them find a job. But they have also become more sociable and independent. But the greatest experiences they walked away with were their improved communication and a greater understanding of other people’s lifestyles and ways of thinking.
